Our programme:
1. Evening sightseeing tour of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk
You'll drive through some of the city's most beautiful places and learn about important chapters of Sakhalin's history.
2. The Velikan Cape (hot lunch included)
The Velikan Cape is one of the most beautiful seashores on Sakhalin. The coastal cliffs mask terraces, grottoes and small caves, and seals are often spotted on the beaches. The bizarrely gigantic superstructures are striking in their outlines. The cliffs Elephant, Arch, Mouth, Sea Lion and Avicenna resemble the Kuril Islands in miniature. Along the narrow strip of sandy beach stretches spruce and fir forests. The shore at the cape is steep and ends in a forest of mast pines. Further on, there are only mountains covered in dense dark-coniferous forests.
3. The Aniva lighthouse
The Aniva lighthouse was installed in 1939 on the small rock of Sivuchya, a hard-to-reach place with frequent currents and fog. The lighthouse worked until 2006, then the isotope installations were removed. There are always plenty of birds in this picturesque place.
4. The Slepikovsky lighthouse
A continuous strip of sandy beaches stretches southwest of the island. In the outskirts of the village of Sadovniki, the curve of the coastline goes off into the sea and outlines a triangular ledge, the Slepikovsky Cape. The narrow line of beaches stretches here to the strip of coastal dunes. The jewel of this remarkable place is a lighthouse built in the Karafuto period. It is the only lighthouse on Sakhalin that is reflected in the water.
5. The Frog rock remnant
Climbing the Frog rock remnant
The Frog is a 24-million-year old nature monument of regional significance. It is one of the most energetically charged places on the island and is steeped in the myths and legends of the aboriginal people, the Ainu. It takes no more than 20 minutes to walk to the foothills along an eco-trail. From the top of the ridge, you can admire the stunning views of Aniva Bay, Tunaycha and Changing lakes.
6. The Busse Lagoon
The Busse Lake is a natural monument of regional significance. It is home to giant oysters, scallops, sea urchins, trepan, crabs and many other amazing species of marine life. During the walk you will see the unique lagoon and Aniva Bay and learn how giant Sakhalin oysters live in their natural environment, see scallops that are usually served in sushi bars.
